The night kicks off with a Dine-Around Reception featuring live entertainment, followed by the Lit Up Program, hosted by Nantucket’s Tim Talks Books, Tim Ehrenberg. The Lit Up Program includes inspiring stories, a live auction, and an awards presentation honoring #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Jodi Picoult, the visionary leadership of Founder Eve Bridburg, and 28 years of literary community. The night culminates with a post-party Speakeasy featuring literary performances and a piano sing-along, giving guests the chance to experience the allure of GrubStreet. Lit Up begins with a Dinner Dine-Around Reception serving Davio’s perfect combination of handmade pastas, fresh seafood, and Davio's signature steaks, live entertainment, and wines by Josh Wine Cellars. Mix and mingle with our Literary Host Committee, and each attending guest will receive an autographed book from a member of the committee. You’ll hear moving stories of first-hand experiences from GrubStreet’s writers. 

This year’s Grubbie awardee is #1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult, introduced by New York Times bestselling author Alice Hoffman. Tim Ehrenberg is the creator of Tim Talks Books, President of the Nantucket Book Foundation, which presents the annual Nantucket Book Festival, and the Marketing, Events, and E-commerce Director for Nantucket Book Partners, the two independent bookstores on Nantucket Island: Mitchell's Book Corner and Nantucket Bookworks. He is the co-host of the hit literary podcast "Books, Beach, & Beyond" with best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand, produced by N Magazine. Entering its third season, Elin and Tim have interviewed Ann Patchett, Barbara Kingsolver, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jenna Bush Hager, Ina Garten, Nicole Kidman, John Grisham, and many more. Special tribute to GrubStreet’s Founder, Eve Bridburg

Under Eve’s leadership, GrubStreet has grown into a national literary powerhouse recognized for artistic excellence, its efforts to democratize the publishing pipeline, and innovative programming. An active partner to the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, Eve was the driving force behind securing Chapter 91 space in the Seaport to build GrubStreet’s Center for Creative Writing. Eve’s work has been recognized with a Barr Fellowship (class of 2019) and with the 2023 Women's National Book Award, given every two years to a living American woman who has made exceptional contributions to the book industry beyond the scope of her profession. Eve has presented on the future of publishing, what it takes to build a literary arts center, and the intersection of arts and civics at numerous local and national conferences. Her essays and op-eds on publishing, the role of creative writing centers, and the importance of narrative arts have appeared in The Boston Globe, The Huffington Post, WBUR’s Cognoscenti, Writer's Digest, and Tin House. Eve serves on the Advisory Board of The Loop Lab, a Cambridge-based nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing representation in the Media Arts, and on the Advisory Board of Getting to We, a nonprofit organization focused on civil rights and social action.

Literary Legacy

Bridburg founded GrubStreet as a tiny grass-roots organization with just eight students and it has grown into the largest creative writing center in the country. Bridburg, who’s been with GrubStreet for nearly 30 years, will continue to advise the organization.

  • Sharissa Jones

    Author and insufferable storyteller, Sharissa Jones is a proud graduate of Grubstreet's Novel Incubator program. She currently (and enthusiastically) serves as the Board Chair.

  • Daniel Medwed

    Daniel Medwed, a leading authority on criminal law, is the author of several books, including Barred: Why the Innocent Can't Get Out of Prison, which Bloomberg named one of the "Best Fall Books" in 2022. He is a founding member of the board of the Innocence Network, a consortium of organizations dedicated to freeing innocent prisoners, and a University Distinguished Professor of Law and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University.

  • Steve Almond

    Steve Almond is the author of twelve books of fiction and nonfiction, including the New York Times bestsellers Candyfreak and Against Football. Steve’s most recent book, Truth Is the Arrow, Mercy Is the Bow, was lauded as “essential and timeless” by Cheryl Strayed. His short stories have been anthologized in the Best American Short Stories, The Pushcart Prize, Best American Erotica, and Best American Mysteries series.

  • Jabari Asim

    Jabari Asim is the Distinguished Professor of Multidisciplinary Letters at Emerson College, where he is also the Elma Lewis Distinguished Fellow in Social Justice. His work has been included in Best American Poetry and Best American Essays. A Guggenheim Fellow, he is the author of 14 books for children and 8 books for adults, including Yonder, a novel named a New York Times Notable Book in 2022.

  • Lorri Berenberg

    Lorri Berenberg opened the Berenberg Gallery after completing a twenty–five year career in museum education. As associate director of education at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston she developed some of the museum's most popular and innovative programs.

She joined GrubStreet’s board of directors in June 2025, and is honored to be a member of the Lit Up Literary Host Committee.

  • Tom Perrotta

    Tom Perrotta is the bestselling author of nine works of fiction, including Election and Little Children, both of which were made into Oscar-nominated films, and The Leftovers, which was adapted into a critically acclaimed, Peabody Award-winning HBO series. His other books include Bad Haircut, The Wishbones, Joe College, The Abstinence Teacher, Nine Inches,and his newest, Mrs. Fletcher. His work has been translated into a multitude of languages.

  • Deborah L. Plummer

    Deborah L. Plummer, PhD, is the Founder/Executive Director of Getting to We, Inc., a nonprofit that develops and promotes charitable initiatives and educational projects that turn us and them into we, especially in high-conflict, emotionally charged social issues. Her work and writings include Some of My Friends Are…The Daunting Challenges and Untapped Benefits of Cross-Racial Friendships and Advancing Inclusion: A Guide to Effective Diversity Council and Employee Resource Group Membership.

  • Kathy Sherbrooke

    Author, Manuscript Consultant. Katherine Sherbrooke is the author of Leaving Coy's Hill, a New York Times notable book, and the winner of Honors in Fiction from the MA Book Awards, and Fill the Sky, a finalist for the May Sarton Prize for contemporary fiction and the winner of an Indie Book of the Year award. Her first book is a family memoir called Finding Home. She embarked on the writing journey with the help of GrubStreet.

  • Sandra Taylor

    Board Member, GrubStreet. Advanced Leadership Initiative Partner at Harvard. Ms. Taylor is a writer and supporter of youth writing programs, and previously was a banker for Citibank, Bank of Hawaii, CoreStates, and BancOne.

  • Michelle Toth

    Michelle’s GrubStreet story began in the toilet paper factory with Eve and grew into 14 years on the board, including as co-chair. Now based in the UK, she runs True Story London—live shows, workshops, and a podcast—and comes home to Boston to co-produce Stories & (stories + music, Oct 23) with Eve and the team.

  • Rob Wilstein

    Rob Wilstein is a 2012 graduate of Grub Street’s Novel Incubator program. He is currently working on a third novel, a family saga set on Martha’s Vineyard.

  • Karen Winn

    Karen Winn is the author of two novels, The Society (coming 2026) and Our Little World, published by Dutton/Penguin Random House.
